55. Yogi Bear

Ok. Let’s just say I have seen worse movies. But I guess going into this I had no expectations at all. None. Zero. Zilch.  If I was hoping for anything it was just silly mind less fun. It’s always good to watch movies that require nothing on your part. Just to sit back and watch.
Which is what Yogi Bear gives us. Granted it’s a kids’ movie. But I think just because something is labeled as child doesn’t mean it has to be dumb. There are plenty of kids’ movies that are clever, funny, well written and just plain good. Basically anything from Pixar minus The Incredibles (dumb).  Yogi Bear is the movie version of the famous cartoon.
Highlights are that there are funny parts. I do admire how Dan Akroyd gave it all in this movie. You don’t feel like he is slumming or phoning it in. He fully jumps into being Yogi and his energy actually makes the movie better. Even if the plot is very little. In a different roll, Justin Timberlake stars as Boo Boo.  Not that’s not a typo. But thankfully there are no bad puns like the little bear dancing and singing Boo Boo Boo.  Overall there are way worse movies and some parts did make me chuckle. Hate to see Anna Faris in roles like this. I think she happens to be really funny and deserves way better than being the “token girl” in Yogi Bear.

Final Verdict:  Not worth it. But I can see how children would love it.

  1. This definitely reminded me of the cartoon. Funny, short, and no real plot material.

  5. Although I like Dan Akroyd, and I like Yogi Bear, and I do a fine version of Boo-Boo...don't ask...I am really hesitant to see this. Why, well... #1) I don't want to ruin my perfect version of Yogi from the 60's cartoons I grew up on, and #2) most modern "remakes" never ever capture the same mood, the innocent humor, of the originals. So, unless someone tells me this is a great all around fun, family movie? I will probably pass until it shows up on late nite...somewhere.
