***SUGGESTED MOVIE FROM BLOG FOLLOWER***
To be honest I had never heard of the movie Saint Ralph until it was suggested to me by one of the Blog followers here. But after checking into it I was intrigued to see it. It's not the type of movie that I usually watch, nor that I would own.
Saint Ralph is a story about a young man (Ralph) who is your typical boy growing up in Catholic school. The story takes place in the 1950’s Boston. Ralph struggles with all things that young 14 yr old boys go through. Bullies, Girls, Rebellion, Fear of the future etc all are present in his life. But the one thing that Ralph has is a mother who is battling cancer. He visits her everyday but struggles with his anger towards God over this situation.
Then Ralph's mom goes into a coma. Ralph, not knowing what to do and still angry at God, decides that if he can win the Boston Marathon then it will be the miracle that will wake his mom up. Granted a 14 yr old boy winning the Boston marathon WOULD be a miracle! So he sets out on vigorous training and telling everyone that he is going to win. The movie is good, it is slow in spots but at the end you really get wrapped up in the story AND the race. You really, really want him to win!
Final Verdict: Good but not worth owning.
In the age of Netflix, which is how I discovered this movie, I wouldn't own ANYTHING...but THIS MOVIE IS GREAT! Not since Rudy have I cried during the climactic moment in ANY movie. I did not find it slow at all. I thought it was sad and hilarious, as well as Canadian and Catholic. Also, I watched this movie while riding an indoor training bicycle...PERFECT. Good workout movie as long as you can hear the dialogue. Let's give it up for Jennifer Tilly:weight-lifter nurse. WORTH OWNING if ANYTHING IS...rank with Breaking Away and Rudy. Just do it.
ReplyDeleteGreat movie, havn't seen it in years.
ReplyDeleteHave not seen this film. Will have to bring it up on Netflix and see if it is as good as Stephen says it is.
