48. The In-Laws

Never judge a book by its cover.  Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks are really at the top of my list of must see actors. Therefore if they weren’t in it, I probably would never have even given this movie a chance. But they are so one day I found myself at my mom’s apartment when she had just rented it.  So into the DVD player it went.
It was a pleasant surprise. In fact I was so surprised on how funny it was that apparently I purchased it at one time! It does have Ryan Reynolds in it so that is always a plus, he is one of the funniest actors out there. Brooks plays a foot doctor whose daughter is set to marry Douglas’ son played by Reynolds. The funny parts  come from the fact the Douglas is secretly a spy and Brooks gets in the middle of his missions. Brooks and Douglas are an odd couple in this movie. Brooks is uptight and Douglas is the “crazy spy”. It’s really funny in parts and it can be entertaining.

Final Verdict: Hadn’t watched it in years and it’s lost some of its luster so not worth owning

  1. I saw this movie and liked it. It is a re-make of the In Laws w/ Peter Falk and Alan Arkin...also very funny. There are alot of good gags in this remake and Michael Douglas plays this role perfectly. There is a scene where Albert Brooks inadvertently gets involved in a covert mission w/MD's character and ends up have a criminal mastermind "interested in Him" ...funny stuff.Overall I would watch it again, but as far as owning....it's a toss-up, maybe if you had the original too.
