First I must give props to AMC theaters. I love it. You can’t beat 5 dollars for a movie. Every Monday –Thursday before 4pm is 5 bucks. Then Saturdays before noon is 5 bucks. It’s a great deal. Never crowded. Never sold out.
So we ventured out on a cold Saturday morning to see the Green Hornet. I am not a Seth Rogen fan at all. I haven’t seen most of his stuff because of the vulgarness of it so I didn’t really now what to think going into this. But I thought it was great. It was very funny, very fast pace. Now the script is a little loose. It has a lot of holes in it and some stuff doesn’t make sense. Like for instance they have the car The Black Beauty. In the Black Beauty they have everything. Ejection seats, bulletproof glass, a fax machine and even a record player. Are we really to believe that in all the bells and whistles in this car there is no wi-fi? Nothing that is able to handle a thumb drive?
The sidekick/partner/genius Kato that was made famous by Bruce Lee is now taken over by Taiwanese mega star Jay Chou. In his first American role Chou does a great job here. His English is not that good but his charisma comes through and he was able to hold his own against Rogen. I was sad to see Cameron Diaz downgraded to “token pretty girl” I think she has way more in her and deserves better. BUT the absolutely best part of the movie was the opening scene where James Franco makes a cameo as an up and coming crime boss. Funniest thing I have seen in a movie in ages. I was crying.
Final Verdict: Maybe not a buy it right when comes out but I can see myself owning it later when it's cheaper. Worth seeing in theaters especially for 5 bucks.
I really, really enjoyed this movie. Although their were times when I wanted to strangle the Britt Reid character as much as I would love to strangle Michael Scott. This is a quality film. Worth the $5 and probably worth owning on blu-ray.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand Seth Rogen so I'm interested to see whether or not I can tolerate this, much less enjoy it. I think one of Cameron Diaz's best roles was was the token pretty girl in "The Mask".
ReplyDeletedude the mask is awesome and i have to agree with Jeremy on the Cameron Diaz part i mean im surely going to see it and then comment again but i totally agree with the fact that Seth Rogen is pretty vulgar i mean i saw a couple of his movies a while back and they weren't all that great they were actually pretty stupid but i mean only because he was so vulgar so im hoping to see if this makes him seem more like Batman or some thing
ReplyDeletebeen meaning to see this. probably won't get to due to money, but i i'm excited to netflix it when it comes out on dvd
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't what i was expecting but i enjoyed it. It was pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteI WILL Redbox or Netflix but won't go see. I'm surprised Diaz doesn't play the Green Hornet's mom.
ReplyDeletenot sure if i will ever see the green hornet.
ReplyDeleteHave not seen this yet, but will go to theater or wait until it hits on DVD.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Seth Rogan. I am not a big fan. I have started watching things with him in it and have turned it off just because of the nature, but we also gave Green Hornet a try and liked it as well. Some of the language and insinuations could have been left out, but yeah, the car... it was cool.
