8. The Waterboy

You can do it! Man, I totally forgot how funny this movie was.
The Waterboy is a (can't believe I am saying this) Adam Sandler Classic.  Starring as the Cajun wonder Bobby Boucher, Sandler leads a crazy bunch of misfits to college football glory! So over the top, so crazy, so funny.  Not to mention it also stars Oscar winner Kathy Bates and the Fonz, Henry Winkler. In fact Coach Klein is one of the funniest parts of the movie. Nothing beats seeing the man who is a TV icon sitting on a football trying to hatch it like an egg!

Sandler's movies are not for everybody. His humor is off color, sophomoric and sometimes genius. I would have never have predicted or thought that the man who gave us Billy Madison who go on to be one of the most popular and highest grossing actors of all time. Not all his movies are frat boy comedy. Big Daddy has plenty of depth and heart. So does Spanglish or even Bedtime Stories. But not Click. That’s just depressing! Anyway, haven’t seen the Waterboy in years. It was great to watch it. Also great to watch it with my wife who has never seen it! Final Verdict: Worth owning!

Best Quote: “Did they ever catch that gorilla that done escape from the zoo and punched you in the eye?”  “ No momma, the search continues”

From Christiana: Jimmy says that since we watched this one together I have to write something. So here it is. This is the first time that I have ever seen Waterboy. I have heard good and bad things about. I find Adam Sandler hit or miss but I enjoyed Waterboy. However, I don't think Jimmy should ever complain about another one of my movies being unrealistic again!

  2. I was not much of a Sandler fan when I went to see "The Waterboy." It kind of blinsided me. I agree with your assessment of Henry Winkler but let's not forget that genius of casting Jerry Reed. I only wish he had been given more to do. This reminded me of a Jerry Lewis movie. And, yes, Sandler's movies can be very hit and miss. "Happy Gilmore" was a hit. "Little Nicky" was a miss. "The Wedding Singer" was a hit. "Grown Ups" was a huge miss. "Click" was terrible. The one movie of his I'd like to revisit is "Funny People."

  3. I saw this in the theatre, and I almost fell out of my chair when the other school puts in their towel boy only to see him get leveled.

  5. actually one of my least favorite sandler movies, along with (everyone will agree on this...) Little Nicky. Still funny, but no Wedding Singer, Billy Madison, or Happy Gilmore. Lol, but I agree with Christiana that you can't call them unrealistic anymore :)

  6. I'm a fan of serious actor, Adam Sandler. The other stuff is OK, but gets old fast. I LOVED Click,Reign Over Me, Spanglish, and even Punch Drunk Love. At least in Waterboy he tries an accent.

  7. Agrees with the statement, Adam Sandler is a hit or a big miss. Waterboy was okay and yes there were some very funny gags...Henry Winkler was the greatest!, but overall, I felt it was the same old Adam Sandler, nothing special. He seems to try alot of these rolls...the dorky, misfit who you love at the end of the move and ...oh look, a happy ending, lets walk off in the rainbow colored sunset....(Sarcasm) some of his latest fare I find more interesting and I can see his acting chops growing into a very good drama actor. I do really like "50 First Dates" with Drew Barrymore, he has another awesome supporting cast. But for me, Waterboy is forgettable...not worth owning.

  8. I pretty much like anything that Adam Sandler does. Hit or not. I just watched Waterboy recently and it was okay. I will watch it again I am sure. Just because it is a stupid comedy.
