Would you call this movie obscure? I'm not sure if that is the term Im looking for. I love this movie, always have. But it seems like a lot of people have never heard of it. But its a nice little gem of a flick.
Real Genius stars a young Val Kilmer. Kilmer before the Batman days. Kilmer stars as Chris Knight a young super genius who is in charge of a laser program at his university. He is also in charge of a young new genius named Mitch who has just come to school at the ripe young age of 15. What these guys dont know is that their laser work is for government. A top secret laser project that can pinpoint a human on Earth from outer space and destroy that human! Perfect 80's movie glory!
Real Genius is a great movie. It is over shadow by a lot of other 80's movies like Back to the Future, The Goonies or even Weird Science. But it shines and if you ever get a chance to watch it, take that chance. Kilmer also showed a lot of promise for comedic acting and one would like to see what would have happened if he kept that up. It also stars Jon Gries, Uncle Rico, himself in a great role as Laslo the guy who lives in the dorm room closet. Again, Pure 80's glory!
Final Verdict: Worth owning and worth watching if you get the chance.
It's been a while since I have seen this but I remember it being really good.

ReplyDeleteMy extensive Blockbuster connection makes me feel qualified to give this movie two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Classic 80's cheese and Val Kilmer is totally dreamy! How come we never figured out how to make the dorm into a water park

ReplyDeletegreat movie.! very funny and my favorite line by Val Kilmer?..." in the immortal words of Socrates...."I drank what?"" (p.s. look up Socrates and see how he died in order to get that joke!) you have got to see this movie!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite films. Also loved the score to the movie. Tears for Fears "Everybody wants to rule the world" is also a favorite song. I think it is because it makes me remember the film.
