38. Robin Hood

First off I’m just going to say that a lot of people that I have talked to did not like this movie. Then I’m going to say that I don’t know why? I guess if you were going into to it expecting the same old traditional Robin Hood story then you would be disappointed because that is not what you are going to get.
This Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and directed by Ridley Scott is the origin story of how Robin Hood became Robin Hood.  Crowe stars at Robin Longstride, an Archer in the King’s army. In a twist of fate and destiny common but talented Longstride takes the identity of Robin Loxley, the king’s right hand man and a knight of noble birth. When Crowe goes to visit the Loxley household he finds a town, Nottingham, in dire straits due to the heavy tyranny of King John. King John is played wonderfully by Oscar Isaac and I thought he was the best part of the movie.
Yes, Robin Hood can drag some and it takes a while pick up steam but it’s an Epic Movie. One that is rich in characters, battles and wonderful acting. If you go into this one open minded and just wanting to “feast” on a movie then you will enjoy this movie. If you want the traditional men in tights movie then you won’t like it. Oh and it looks great in blu-ray

Final Verdict: Well considering that we just bought it, worth owning.

Other Tidbits:
The blu-ray includes a director’s cut edition which gives you more back story about the kids who have run off to live in Sherwood forest so that you feel more of a connection to them when they make the smaller cameos included in the theater edition.

  1. good movie. I enjoyed see this at the theaters and was really hoping it would not be as bad as the Kevin Costner version. (Even though I like Kevin Costner overall...he really does a bad English accent....yes, that was supposed to be an English accent!) I was not disappointed with Russell Crowe's version of the legend. Very well acted, even the supporting cast was well done. I enjoyed to non-action scenes where the only thing keeping the movie going was the dialogue, b/c that dialogue gives us the characters heart! Now, the action scenes...WOW! love them! With enough blood and mindless violence to fill you up, it is very accurate to the time and totally realistic. Yes, even the archery...with a master archer, is realistic! Sets itself up for a possible sequel, but I doubt we will ever see it. Good movie...worth owning? Probably, especially if you like Russell Crowe (and who doesn't), or if you like historical movies with great acting and action!

  2. You want an interesting take on the Robin Hood story? Read Hood, Scarlet, and Tuck by Steven Lawhead. A little more 'historical' than any movie. My favorite movie version will always be men in tights. (TIGHT tights)

  6. I do love Robin Hood Men in Tights but Cary Elwyse is not quite the same caliber as Russell Crowe. I really enjoyed this version. I also appreciate Mark Addy (Friar Tuck) and Cate Blanchett (Lady Marion) as actors.

  7. Thought the movie was decent. Wasn't one of the best Robin Hood movies I've ever seen, but not bad.

  8. Oh boy this movie...wow...what can I say *fans self* Russell Crowe...wow...haha Besides being blown away by how great this man looks *exp for his age* I always, and I mean ALWAYS make sure I go into any remake movie or in this case the starting point movie with an open mind. I didn't compare it to anything because what was there to compare it to? It's how Robin Hood became an outlaw, not what happens after he's an outlaw. I loved the action in the movie, the acting was great and I LOVED Mark Addy as Friar Tuck. Very good choice in casting him. :D
