The Saga Begins! |
Where do I even begin? I have started an undertaking of watching all three Twilight movies in one day. Back to back to back. Traveling into the world of Bella Swan and her discovering of the fact that Vampires are not only real but that they sparkle and have cool hair.
What we have here with the twilight series, both with the books and the movies, is the resurgence of Vampires into pop culture. But that is today, it's strange to think that when this movie was made it was considered to be a risk. The budget was small. No one could have predicted the phenomenon that would follow. Ok the positives. The Twilight moves stay true to the original book, which I always appreciate. There a minor changes but overall a good adaption. The soundtrack and music selection for this movie is great. It sets a great tone and one of the very few movies that I think the music enhances the movie.
Now the bad and here comes wrath of junior high girls everywhere. The acting is the worst part of this movie. The two leads Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are just not good in this movie. I do not know how people can tolerate them. It's almost comical how many different ways that Edward and Bella can just sit and emote sadness. It's such a distraction to me. I'm interested to see if they improve over the next two movies. But as far this one it's subpar. The real exception is Billy Burke who plays Bella’s dad Charlie. He was great, spot on.
Final Verdict: As of right now not worth owning but then again I'm not their target audience.
Other Tidbits:
-Author of the books Stephenie Meyer makes a cameo in the diner. She orders a veggie plate
-When Edward asks Bella to come over to his house for the first time and asks Bella if is she is worried you notice Pattinson's spot on British accent.
Ok Ok so they aren't the best actors but I thought that the films were enjoyable but funny enough people just wouldn't stop talking...hmm wonder how that happened.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the positives and the negatives another thing to add to Negatives is the "special" effects. They were awful, like when Edward took Bella on a trip through the woods HORRIBLE!!! Great Review Can't wait till you write a review on ther other two! :o)
ReplyDeletethanks Seety! I agree you can really tell they didnt have the budget they do know.
ReplyDeleteSPARKLES!
ReplyDeleteThe problem is this: people fell in love with the books...myself included. Therefore, they WANT to fall in love with the movies.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is-the books are mostly "thoughts" and "internal dialogue" and "feelings". Thoughts, feelings, and internal dialogue make for a crappy movie. movies are action. Even ROMANCE movies are action. So, that don't work.
Add in the fact that Pattinson and Stewart with their combined acting forces could not work their way out of a paper bag, and it's just sad.
However, I must say that the following movies were just a tad bit better than the first one which made me want to weep with boredom. I can only take people staring moonily at each other for so long.
Dawn is a genius. Couldnt have put it better.
ReplyDelete"One of the few movies the music enhances the movie"
ReplyDeleteI think music can make or break a movie. Seriously, with The Lord of the Rings trilogy wouldn't be half as good without that music. Starwars would be just a geeky sci-fi, pirates of the Caribbean would be just a drugged out thief, and Narnia would be a silly kids fantasy.
I think its very common for a movie to be completely enhanced by the good music.
About this particular movie I don't remember though.
I also agree that the acting is horrendous.
jimmy i agree with you on all aspects of this review! i like the books but the twihard crap is annoying. i mean tweens who think robert pattinson is the best thing known to man. i watch the movies to make fun of them, besides nothing can beat harry potter. :D
ReplyDeleteThey aren't the best actors but all the movie's did really well and continue to sell so apparently people like them !!
ReplyDeleteJimmy, my respect for you just went down......
