So. I havent watched Hook in years. It was purchased because I was in the mood to watch and when you are single you do crazy things like buy a dvd versus just renting the dvd. So I bought Hook. It has been at least 5 years sinced I watched it.
So now what do I think. Here is my thoughts. It was not that good. Really, it was kind of boring and LONG. Hook a retelling of the classic story Peter Pan. It stars Robin Williams as Peter who has now grown all up and doesnt remember his Neverland fun. It also stars Dustin Hoffman as Hook and Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell. The story revolves around Hook kidnapping Peter's children and taking them to neverland to bait Peter into a final battle. But Peter doesnt remember anything about neverland. The flying, the fairies, the pirates nothing.
Like I said earlier. I didnt really enjoy it. I think it would have been better for me to have not re-watched it and remembered it fondly. I must say that Hoffman as Hook was the best part. As well as Jack, the son. The best part revolves around the Lost Boys. But I just didnt like it.
Final Verdict: Not Worth Owning.

21. Mrs Doubtfire
When you think of Mrs. Doubtfire what comes to mind? You think of the funny movie starring Robin Williams. Still his most popular comedy yet not starring a Genie, right? But after my first viewing in many years (at least 5) the thing that stood out to me was how depressing this movie is. Within ten minutes the family gets divorced and the dad loses time with his children. The movie is so misleading. Funny Funny Funny Funny then BAM! It hits you in the gut.
Don’t get me wrong. The movie is funny. Just the whole premise of Robin Williams dressing up as an English housekeeper is funny in its own right. The insanity that this involves is crazy and humorous. But underlining this is not really a family heart but an over the top depressing act. To me, watching it now, that out ways the funny parts. It makes the movie drag down. My view of this movie is now tainted!!! I did watch it with one of my college students (Gears!) who really wanted to come over and take part in a random movie. He too was super excited to watch this movie since he hasn’t seen in it years either. So I though I’d let him share his thoughts below.
- Final Verdict for me: Worth owning but for different reasons now. And…………..here’s Gears!
Mrs. Doubtfire is a spectacular movie I think it is so worth owning not only because it is one of Robin Williams Greatest films but because of the drama suspense and pure comedic genius of the movie I love it. It had been so long since I had seen it that I forgot Pierce Brosnan was in it as a guy named STU that is such a weird name. Seriously though the Ups and Downs of this movie tore me up there were times when I wanted to cry from the sadness of the movie and there were times when I wanted to cry because of the pure comedy that is Robin Williams especially when they played “Dude look like a lady” by Aerosmith that was great. Really that is all I have to say so if you are not doing something or actually even if you are Watch Mrs. Doubt fire it is fun and educational!

3. Robots

Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the movie. I think it’s creative. I laughed out loud at parts. I love the Robot doing the Robot (while bumpin’ Nelly!), I like the part where they are doing operation (like the game) on the robot and I think the small homage and cameo by James Earl Jones was great. Ewan McGregor does his best to be sincere as Rodney trying to make it in the big world as an inventor. Amanda Bynes is one of my favorites even if her part is small. It’s a good movie. Not great and not worth owning.
What bugged about the movie? Two things: First was Robin Williams. He was just so over the top in this. It seemed to me that not only did he go off script but spent the entire movie just trying to come up with one liners. Instead of just allowing a character to develop and naturally be funny he was almost too formulaic in his approach. It fell flat. For every 10 jokes he did, maybe one was funny. But the Britney Spears dance was funny. Second, it really annoys me when children’s movies try to throw in jokes that are over a child’s head just to try and make the adults happy. Shrek did this all the time. I think a kid’s movie can be amazing and hilarious without throwing in risqué jokes. See Toy Story for example.
Final Verdict: Good movie. Not worth owning.
Other tidbits
Paul Giammatti plays Timmy the Gate Guard, and he absolutely kills in the few scenes he is in. So funny.
Amanda Bynes is awesome and needs to do more movies.
