96. RIO

My wife loves cartoon movies. Like, LOVES them. Now I dont have too much trouble with them and she really wanted to see the new cartoon movie RIO. I thought it was about the Angry Birds Rio but it wasnt. But it does have George Lopez and Tracey Morgan so that was good!
Rio is the story about a blue cockatoo that is kidnapped, birdnapped?, taken from his native homeland and transferred to the US but ends up falling off the truck in Minnesota. Where a lovely little finds him, raises him, loves him and they become the best of friends. This cockatoo is voiced by Jesse Eisenberg who created facebook.
The story takes off when we find out that Blu, great name for a cockatoo, is the only remaining Blue Cockatoo in the entire world and is needed in Rio to mate with the only female Blue Cockatoo voiced by Anne Hathaway. Of course things dont go that easy and they are kidnapped, birdnapped?, taken again!!! They escape and the race is on to get back to their owners. Along the way they are joined by a Lopez who was great as Tucan and Jordan as a bulldog. Oh and the soundtrack is awesome!

Final Verdict: I wouldnt own it but I think my wife will buy it!

40. Princess Diaries 2:Royal Engagement

It's hard to remember that Anne Hathaway started out her career as the magical Disney star of the Princess Diary movies and Ella Enchanted. But it was nice to travel back to the day of Princess Mia in the sequel where she tries to save her country of Genovia.
Royal Engagement takes place after Mia graduates from College and she is off to spend some time in Genovia to get to know her grandmother Mary Poppins. Well not Poppins but Julie Andrews who plays her grandmother. Crisis hits when Mia discovers that she has to marry within one month or she will be forced to vacate her throne. She must choose between the likable but lame Andrew or Captain Kirk. Well not Captain Kirk but Chris Pine who plays the nephew of Lord Mabry who is trying to take over the throne.
It’s a cute movie. I love the first P.D. movie and this was a quality but maybe not necessary movie. It is neat to see John Rhys-Davies play Lord Mabry but still hear the voice of Gimli from the Lord of the Rings movies.

Final verdict: Worth owning if you own the first one.

15. The Devil Wears Prada

Can you still be a real man and really like this movie? Geez I hope so. I do love this movie.  It is very funny, well acted and well written. However, I do not think this of this movie as “Chick Flick” or a “Romantic Comedy” at all.  I think of this movie as a straight up Comedy.  It’s a just a great movie. Technically this is not one of my movies but I didn’t complain to have to watch it.
Now if you haven’t seen DWP then you should. It stars Anne Hathaway (in her best role since the Princess Diaries) and Meryl Streep. Streep stars as Miranda Priestly the world famous editor of Runway magazine. Hathaway plays the girl who is the unconventional and unexpected choice to be her new second assistant. Lame plot? Except for the fact the Priestly is a viscous and mean boss who controls all aspects of her employees’ lives, expects the absurd and impossible from them, and whose wrath is particularly painful.  The payoff is that if you can survive a year as her assistant then you can get any dream job you could want.
The movie has heart to go along with its comedy. Emily Blunt stars as another runaway assistant and steals a lot of the scenes. Along with a fine and very underrated actor Stanley Tucci who is also a Runway employee. I think that a lot of people (guys) will write this movie off right away because it’s geared towards females. But I love it. It is so funny. Any guy should use this movie as a chance to score brownie points with his lady and volunteer to watch this. You might find out you like it!

Final Verdict: Worth owning even if you are guy!
