It's hard to remember that Anne Hathaway started out her career as the magical Disney star of the Princess Diary movies and Ella Enchanted. But it was nice to travel back to the day of Princess Mia in the sequel where she tries to save her country of Genovia. Royal Engagement takes place after Mia graduates from College and she is off to spend some time in Genovia to get to know her grandmother Mary Poppins. Well not Poppins but Julie Andrews who plays her grandmother. Crisis hits when Mia discovers that she has to marry within one month or she will be forced to vacate her throne. She must choose between the likable but lame Andrew or Captain Kirk. Well not Captain Kirk but Chris Pine who plays the nephew of Lord Mabry who is trying to take over the throne.
It’s a cute movie. I love the first P.D. movie and this was a quality but maybe not necessary movie. It is neat to see John Rhys-Davies play Lord Mabry but still hear the voice of Gimli from the Lord of the Rings movies.
Final verdict: Worth owning if you own the first one.
